Up through a dark forest the hiker walks, arriving Heart Lake after passing through Heart Gap and crossing Digger Creek.

This makes an easy dayhike, or one can camp overnight at the good campsites next to the lake. And watch the sunrise the next morning.

This corner of Lassen National Forest is off the beaten track, and will likely not be crowded.  Dogs are welcome here, and yours may enjoy fetching sticks thrown into the lake.
